Milford Sound Although we were reluctant to drive all the way out here again (in the case that it might be closed), we gave it a go and fortunately succeeded.
Sean got us onto one of the Milford Sound boat cruises, a trip that leaves the dock and essentially makes a large circle around the sounds.
Although it started raining halfway through the voyage and was pretty cold, I managed to get some of my most favorite and memorable scenic pictures of the entire trip at the basin of one of the falls.
Tisa Cycling One of Tisa's most favorite ways to get around Dunedin was on her bike. She stopped by my flat one afternoon on her bike and I shot a few pictures of her smiling and otherwise looking cute.
Lake Tekapo One of our many stops along the way, Lake Tekapo (pronounced Tee'-kuh-poo) was just another bit of lovely scenery.
After we departed the area, we headed further inland towards Mt. Cook (New Zealand's highest peak), but stopped and purchased some fresh salmon along the way. I went on to cook that salmon in our camper van for the best dinner we'd had in weeks!
Taken from my original journal entry:
Salmon fields forever.
While driving from Lake Tekapo to Mt. Cook we came across a salmon farm just 12km off of the road. After deciding to turn off the road and explore, we managed to pickup 1/2 kilogram of salmon fresh out of the river for just $12.00 NZ (~$7.20 USD). It turned out to be one of the best salmon I have ever tasted in my life and it was entirely cooked in the camper van!
Nick's Departure This was a sad afternoon indeed, but one that was inevitable. Since we three had different flights out of L.A., Nick happened to be the first one to go.
We spent the afternoon running around town, then off to a local IHOP for some breakfast and coffee, and finally to LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) where we dropped ole Nickolai off.
Death Valley National Park This was one of the cooler parts of our Kiwi road adventure, Death Valley.
I think one of the joys of driving through the desert with the mini-van-esque vehicle we were in was that it had an outside temperature gauge. We kept watching the temperature climb higher and higher, reaching a maximum of about 110 or 112 degrees Fahrenheit.
To anyone that has NOT driven through Death Valley, I would highly recommend it.
Night Out in NYC 2006 Although this was my last night in New York City for the summer, it didn't make the outing any less amusing.
We started off at a bar near the ABCs area. It was a little pricey, but good drinks. We next moved over to a bar that had some live music at it and also met up with some of Amy's friends from San Francisco.
In an effort to meet some girls, one of them took us to a bar that resembled more of a dungeon. It was in a basement downstairs, no air conditioning, and thus was damp with the sweat of people.
We quickly left that bar and went to a better one where we could do some dancing. I'm not particularly fond of dancing, but after as much alcohol as I'd consumed, it came naturally. After all was said and done, we finally had some pizza around four in the morning and then started the long trek back to Amy and Eric's apartment on the upper west side.
By the time we stepped out of the subway tunnel, the sun had already started to come up. We only got a few hours of sleep, but it was worth it.
New York City Jail Since my second cousin, John, is a lieutenant detective in the NYPD, he invited me over to his precinct to get a tour of the jail.
Although he wasn't actually able to meet me, Amy and I took a stroll over there and one of his partners gave us a pretty good tour. We even got to see someone being interrogated by a detective.
There are a few pictures from me being locked in one of the cells.
Zavesky Wedding One of the first small weddings that I had ever been to, and perhaps one of the most enjoyable, this is Amy and Eric's wedding in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The title shot turned out to be a complete accident but also happens to be Amy's most favorite take from the entire event (or at least that's what she tells me).
Nantandola Beach Benny was one of the guys working as a security guard our hotel and for whatever reason, we quickly became friends with him.
Since he had a day off, we asked him if he'd like to go on a day trip with us and our new friend from Germany, Stefanie Fischer (Steffi).
He gladly accepted and guided me towards a local hot spot (though completely non-touristy), Nantandola Beach. We brought along a bunch of picnic-like food, did some snorkeling, and otherwise just hung out with one of the locals.
We felt slightly bad after the trip as it was evident that he was really hoping to get money out of us, but we weren't about to give him any. We had hoped that he genuinely just wanted to hang out with us, and while he probably did, he definitely was hoping to profit from it too.
Daniel's College Graduation He managed to do it much faster than I ever did. These are a bunch of photos from Daniel Woodward's college graduation from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX.
Daniel got two degrees, one in finance and one in management information systems (MIS).
