Nick's 26th Birthday After driving all day long through Nevada, Death Valley, and southern California, we stopped in a little town called Bridgeport to celebrate Nick's 26th Birthday. The people were lovely and we wound up having a very nice home-style cooked meal in one of the local restaurants. ...complete with a few bottles of wine mind you.
Driving Through Arizona This was probably one of my more favorite days of driving with the Kiwis. I'm not sure why I find the vast deserts of the United States so interesting, but my suspicion is that what really interests me are the random stops along the way. ...always trying to figure out how people can actually live in such vastness. We stopped at a number of places along the way from rock canyons, to Indian thrift stores, to you name it.
Kiwis at Trudy's Having told both Nick and Ruth about one of my more favorite Austin restaurants, we met up with Araceli at Trudy's north and proceeded to have the maximum allowance of our Mexican martinis. I vaguely recall it, but I put on a little music performance for everyone once we got back to my apartment around 2am.
The Kiwis in Austin For our first full day in Austin, I took Nick and Ruth to some of the usual Austin hot spots. We went out to Zilker Park just to check it out and even wound up playing a few holes of disc golf. I think that was definitely something new to them. We then went over to Barton Springs and spent a few hours lounging around and swimming. Finally, we went down to one of the many greenbelt water holes only to find it completely dried up.
Vance and Raighne's Baby Shower Much like many of the other baby showers I have been to, this one wasn't any more interesting (just as none of them are). The event was hosted at the Dagley's house in Katy, Texas, a house that I hadn't been to in about ten years. It was really great to see Vance and Raighne as I hadn't seen them in some time.
St. Patrick's Day Eric and I met up with the Crockett's at one of the many St. Patrick's day celebratory bars downtown. It was especially crowded as SXSW (South by Southwest) was still going on as well.
Out Clubbing Tiffany and Jen were headed out on the town one night and Gene, Vanessa, and Christine asked if I'd like to go. I think the occasion had something to do with a bachelor party, but nevertheless, we all got invited to go out. We started out at The Foundation over on fifth street before eventually moving to Oslo's (a bar that doesn't exist any longer). Tiffany had somehow procured a bottle of Absinthe which we all took turns gulping down within the car inside of the parking garage. I don't recall hallucinating, but I definitely got drunk
First Look at Prairie Knoll When my brother was still looking for a house to buy in Austin, this particular house on Prairie Knoll was just one of them on the list. As it happens, he eventually purchased this house. Given the amount of work that went into restoring the house, this album is a pretty cool look at how it was when we found it.
Hanging at Main Event A group of us went out for some dinner at the Olive Garden and then headed over to Main Event for some games, golf, and good times one evening. I wound up leaving a bit earlier than everyone else on account of not feeling well, but still managed to take some shots before taking off.
Eeyore's Birthday 2004 Not but a few weeks after Tisa and I got back from New Zealand and were once again living in Austin, Eeoyre was celebrating yet another one of his birthdays. I won't lie, it was a bit lonely going by myself to this type of event, but I really just wanted to get some good pictures. There didn't seem to be quite as many drugs going around as I had previously remembered.
