Driving Around Fiji With the help of our trusty little Echo rental car, Tisa and I took a trip around the entire Viti Levu Island that we were visiting. I think what would have been my most favorite part of the drive was when Tisa and I stopped by one of the local Muslim Mosques. Unfortunately, the guy who was watching the place (equivalent of a minister) required that we pay in order to see it. Tisa and I not being particularly fond of spending money, and me being particularly opposed to religious figures trying to make a buck, we declined to go inside.
All Blacks Party This has to hands down be the craziest party that I (and I am certain Tisa too) had, have, and will ever have gone to. With the All Blacks in Dunedin, playing just up the street from this flat, Monique's cousin (Tisa's roommate's cousin) was having an All Blacks watching party at the house. The only thing I can say to describe the event is 'Animal House'. It was honestly exactly like when we see what a Delta House party looks like. Beer bottles were flying across the room, brawls were breaking out, it was just a mess. Incidentally, however, it was a great time. I think one of the highlights was the entire group of guys standing up and performing the Haka as a group.
Night out on 6th and 4th Just one of those nights where we got a bunch of people to go out to a bunch of bars and drink a bunch of alcohol. There's actually some pretty cute pictures of Dayna in this album, the album cover being somewhat of an infamous picture we have (for mysterious reasons). After some time at The Library on 6th, and Touché on 6th (for some flaming Dr. Peppers), we eventually wound up at Fado's and finished up our evening there.
First Day of Flying This was the very first day of our flight training, the first time that either Dustin or myself had even been in a Cessna, much less flown one. On this particular day we were flying Cessna N733CP, a Cessna 172-N. I was a little apprehensive to be taking a bunch of pictures because I still wasn't entirely sure what our rules were. Dustin was the first to fly. We left Austin and flew a route straight for Lockhart (though at the time it was very confusing). Dustin got to do his first landing on runway 36 at Lockhart (50R). We switched seats on the ground there and I got to take us back into Austin. My first landing was a long straight in final to runway 35R.
Panoramic of the Delaware River Driving through Jersey, somewhere along one of the highways, I decided that I'd pull over at a 'scenic point' so that I could get some shots of the Delaware River. Though I question the stop being 'scenic', I got the shots I wanted.
Barton Springs Crawfish One of my usual summer adventures to Barton Springs in search of some aquatic life. I thoroughly enjoy finding and filming crawfish and turtles in their natural habitat. On this particular occasion I happened to run into some of Charlie's family. Nina, Melissa, Josh, and Mrs. Duke happened to be there and it was nice to see them after so many years.
Minute Maid Park The day that Daniel graduated from college, Putt happened to call me up and ask me if I wanted to meet he and Lisa and Maren for an Astros game at Minute Maid Park. This was the first time that I'd actually been inside of the park, except for Vance and Raighne's wedding. In that case, however, I still never saw the field, but was only in the one of the meeting rooms on the first floor.
South Austin Speedshop One of the very cool parties that John Joyoprayitno managed to have at his shop, the South Austin Speedshop. I can't remember the name of the guitarist who was playing, but he was a phenomenal slide guitarist and definitely lit the place up. Unfortunately I couldn't stay as long as I'd hoped and actually wound up having the flu (or at least experiencing the symptoms of it) the very next day.
Dreux and Amy's Wedding Shower I'm not exactly sure how this turned out to be one of those couples things, but Dreux and Amy had a coed wedding shower somewhere out near Westlake and we were all invited.
Night out at Sherlocks Krista happened to be out of town one night so Crockett and I went to play poker over at Legend's Sports Bar, and then spent the rest of the evening with Gene, Tiffany, and a handful of other people over at Sherlocks.
