Snails, Mirrors, and Brewster Just a bunch of photos I took around my house one afternoon. Besides the delightful message that Caroline left on my mirror, I also had the pleasure of coming across a full snail orgy. Super NSFW!
Michael's Friends I'm not really sure how I wound up with my brother's album, unless he happened to borrow my camera one evening, but everything goes into the archives!
Katy Tornado It happened during a 36-hour stretch between November 21 and November 23, 1992, the weekend before the Thanksgiving holiday. During that short period of time, 13 states were struck by a rash of tornadoes that killed 26 people and injured another 638. Of the 95 tornadoes that occurred, 41 were rated F3 or "strong", while six of the tornadoes were rated F4 or "violent" on the Fujita scale measuring the severity of tornadoes. It was the worst November outbreak on record for the United States and it started in Houston. Nina Hendee was at home preparing for an end of season soccer party for her daughter. "I had two teenagers in the house and I yelled in my mom voice 'tornado' as loudly as I could, and by then it was quite loud," said Hendee, the west Houston resident. She and the children huddled under the stairwell. It was all over in just 45 seconds. "All of the homes were destroyed in our neighborhood," she said. "One child was injured and that was just with stitches." After striking the Kelliwood area, the twister moved northeast and struck the west Houston airport, destroying several hangers and totaling 21 airplanes worth over $3 million. Kinsolving Dorm During my first summer at the University of Texas, I had to go through what was called the UT provisional program. This was essentially reserved for people who more or less had the test scores to get in, but didn't necessarily have the grades and/or class ranking to really shine on the application process. During this summer program I wound up living in the Kinsolving dormitory which, while normally an all girls dorm, was coed during these summer programs. A friend of mine from high school named Donlee Cone Smith wound up staying with me most of the time. We would often go up towards Pflugerville and Round Rock (which were tiny, tiny towns at the time) and visit his mother. A lot of that time was just spent fishing on the river near her apartment, but it made for a good time. There is a grouping of photos in here from one of the worst accidents Austin had seen. Evidently the 18-wheeler was forced off of the road and wound up colliding with the angled concrete. The truck was entirely mangled, but worse was that the driver and his young son were both killed instantly in the crash.
St. Augustine Before my grandfather got remarried, we used to visit him once in awhile in St. Augustine, Florida. He had a nice little house walking distance from the beach. On this one particular occasion, my dad chartered a boat and captain for us and we went deep-sea fishing with my grandfather and cousin. We had a pretty successful haul.
Family Trip to Cancun Between my junior and senior years in high school my parents took the entire family and my good friend Daniel Putt to Cancún for a week. Daniel and I had one of the better times we have ever had together. We spent most of our time in the tourist bars like Señor Frogs and the like. Putt's fondest memory is of me constantly burning him on the back of his hand as we would sit at a bar drinking while I smoked. I wasn't very good at smoking at 17 years old.
King's Castle When we moved to Texas in 1987, this is the house that we moved into (after spending a few months in an apartment complex waiting for it to be built). I distinctly remember always thinking that I'd be coming across snakes at the new house since we now lived in Texas. However, I think it was another 10 years before I finally came across one on my own.
Ryan and Kirsten Wedding My oldest cousin, Ryan, finally married his girlfriend after a few years. Since her father happened to be a high-ranking military official of the navy at one point in time, they had their wedding on the Naval Base at Annapolis. It was a pretty amazing wedding.
Random Senior Pictures One of the many collections of pictures that were taken during my senior year in high school.
The Fibonacci Cabinet The Fibbonacci Cabinet was a little woodworking / art project that I worked on for my girlfriend, Dayna, back in college. The Fibbonacci sequence is a famous pattern in mathematics that details a lot of the patterns we see in nature. After building the cabinet for her kitchen (since her and her roommate lacked one), I used a Dremel to painstakingly etch out the resulting spiral of properly calculated Fibbonacci geometry.
