Some House Photos I've been looking around the Hyde Park and Windsor Park neighborhoods for some houses and this is one that I happened to come across and really like. Some of the painting is pretty hideous (albeit probably awesome to the kids who did it), but the house itself seemed to be in a great location and I thought had some nice potential.
Introducing Luc LaViolette Another 9 months, another one in the world. Little Juliette finally has her little brother to look after and Dreux is now firmly setup as the house-husband he's always hoped to be.
Canyon Lake Gorge My dear friend Mark got me invited on a private tour of the Canyon Lake Gorge. The Gorge was created in 2002 after the devastating floods that tore through central Texas (11 people died). It was carved in just a couple of days after the dam overflowed. Evidently it's one of the most visible fault lines in the entire world. In fact, a picture of the fault was recently featured on the cover of geological magazines. I'm told that geologists and engineers flock to this spot from around the world just to see the gorge.
Trip to Northern Michigan Mark, Felip and I took an extended road trip to northern Michigan. After visiting the Sleeping Bear Dunes, we headed east to Traverse City (pronounced Travers city) and then up the various peninsulas of Michigan. We visited a very interesting architectural house for sale known as the symphonic house. It was designed with giant strings through the house that are entirely playable and resonate throughout the living room and upstairs. We tried to go swimming at one of the state parks, but unfortunately the rocky bottom hurt our feet terribly and we had to get out.
Saturday with UT and Sting My friend Gary invited me to a UT game with his wife, Ashley. I hadn't been to a game since 2011 and so was really excited to check it out. It just so happened, however, that I had won tickets to see Sting play at the ACL Moody theater as well. I wound up having to leave the game a little early so that I could pickup Roxanne and take her to the show. It turned out to be one of the coolest shows I've ever seen and there's a full story to go along with the experience!
Colorado Pot Shop Since Adrienne and I took a trip up to Breckenridge and Vail in early 2014, I was delighted to have an opportunity to check out Colorado's new law (which actually just went into effect on January 1st of 2014). The prices were pretty good and the products were pretty interesting. Although I don't really care for pot all that much, I'm very excited that this abuse of authority is finally being taken [somewhat] seriously in at least one state (though kudos to Washington too). It was pretty amusing getting a receipt!
iFly Austin Amy got Eric an iFly Austin package for his birthday this year. The experience was quite a bit more entertaining than I thought it would be. Each "flight" is only a single minute long and definitely goes by very quickly. On the other hand, the flying tunnel is considerably taller than I thought it would be and the aerial tricks one can do within the tube are pretty interesting.
Plywood Print Etching Adrienne took one of her favorite drawings and turned it into a wood print. The process consisted of projecting her original drawing onto the plywood, tracing the pattern out, and then cutting away all of the low areas. She started doing this by hand, but found the Dremel to be a much more useful method.
2014 UT Graduation Although Adrienne graduated from college on Friday, we also attended the University-wide graduation on Saturday. It was an absolutely ridiculous setup. There was no parking, no seating (unless you'd shown up 6 hours in advance), and the entire place had absurd "security measures" all around. I managed to sweet talk our way into the back door of one of the 6-pack buildings. We walked through and out into the middle of the festivities. We actually had a great view to the whole thing, but didn't stay for more than 45 minutes. I caught the Admiral's commencement speech the next day on Reddit.
Making Claire's BDay Gummi Bears For my friend Claire's birthday, Adrienne and I made her 3 tubs of vodka-soaked Gummi Bears. We used three different types of vodka in hopes of seeing a difference. The bears were super strong. To anyone wondering, they keep growing larger and larger as they swell with vodka. I'm told that they will just keep absorbing it until they become huge and so it's important to measure out how much vodka one wants to use.
