Umami Burger Culinary Heaven photo 32110 666 0 right Matt Woody Woodson enjoying his Umani Burger photo Although I ve never attended a a href http www houstonburgerclub com 2010 06 umami burger los angeles ca Fellowship of the Bun a meeting I have been keeping close tabs on the group and would like to share my experience of an absolutely fantastic burger I found in Los Angeles The name of the restaurant is Umami and although I believe the original is somewhere on La Brea I dined at the newer location on Hollywood Blvd in the southeast part of Los Feliz near Silverlake Hands down this is perhaps one of the most delectable burgers I have ever tasted Starting with the bun the bread is lightly toasted and has just the right amount of fluff to it Best I can guess it is a semi sweet type of bread and maintains its consistency throughout the entire meal All burgers in the restaurant are prepared medium rare and in light of this I can only assume part of their perfect taste is an extremely high grade of beef The burger is incredibly juicy but somehow not at all greasy It is topped with cheese sun dried tomato caramelized onions and a light homemade sauce From start to finish this burger is perfect Although side items are sold a la carte the sweet potato fries only add to this all around perfect meal They are lightly salted and from what I can tell also have a hint of brown sugar and or cinnamon added I m not a huge fan of the restaurant itself It has a very LA ish vibe and by that it is trendy overly pretentious and a bit pricey But if you can set that aside the burger will not disappoint Expect to pay about 16 00 18 00 for the burger fries drink tax and tip
Gene and Vanessa Stock the Bar strong Introduction strong Instead of having the traditional wedding shower Gene and Vanessa decided that they would have a Stock the Bar party to be hosted by the Crocketts However instead of having the traditional Stock the Bar party here is what they did Everyone that was invited to the party showed up with a bottle of something Gene and Vanessa brought all of their old bottles of liquor to the party So rather than everyone consume the new bottles we consumed the old ones and the newer ones are to be saved for their wedding party I thought it was a pretty good idea strong Setting up for the Party strong photo 18718 487 300 right photo Krista asked me if I could help her setup for the party and so naturally I decided that I could Krista had a number of errands she needed to run for the party First stop on the list was a quick trip over to Party Pig Superstore Naturally bring a kid into a candy store and it s not a quick trip In this case bringing me into a Party Pig store we stayed there for awhile After taking pictures of all things fascinating and waiting around for 30 minutes to have a dozen balloons filled up our trip was complete Next stop was over to H E B to pickup some flowers for the event Finally back to the Crocketts house where I spent 10 minutes making sure that the toilet that Crockett and I had broken fixed and broken again just the day before was in good working order photo 18683 487 200 center photo photo 18864 487 200 center photo br style clear both strong Reuben s Emporium Liquor Store strong photo 19114 487 200 right Inside of Reuben s Emporium photo I m not sure what the relevance of including this is but Krista really seems to love this liquor store just down the road from where they live I am pretty sure that from the outside it appears to be called The Emporium but a quick search on Google suggests it is called Reuben s Wines and Spirits Either way here is the address since this was a Stock the Bar party Take a look at those cubby holes they have for the liquors They actually have a different cubby hole for each type of alcohol tequilas rums etc Crockett sees these enclaves as the store s exclusive selling point Reuben s Wines and Spirits br 11637 Research Blvd br Austin TX 78759 br 512 345 2866 br strong Some Party Highlights strong I would have to say that overall the party was pretty tame but certainly not without it s moments of drunken humor Since it was in some way a wedding shower party we played a game whereby Gene and Vanessa were blindfolded not at the same time and had to sit on the couch A line of girls formed for Gene and a line of guys for Vanessa and each one quietly kissed them on the cheek or in some cases jumped on top and licked their cheek After everyone had their turn they were supposed to guess which one was their spouse to be Gene failed not once not twice but thrice before picking Vanessa He cited he lost count Vanessa technically lost as well however I think it is clear she was cheated because Gene decided not to go Technically I suppose it should have been possible for her to say that none of the kisses came from Gene but it was assumed that he had participated Perhaps another element of the night worth mentioning is Christine taking a body shot from Crockett s bra Well naturally this is entirely captured on film It s actually in two different parts because I could only film 20 second clips at a time on my cell phone photo 18443 487 200 center photo photo 18301 487 200 center photo photo 18757 487 200 center photo br style clear both strong Notable Word Coining Experience strong I would just like to add this quick section as a reminder to the greatest word ever coined I believe the real name of this game is Indian Poker wherby players pickup a card from a deck and place it on their foreheads Since nobody could recall this name prior to wanting to play it it was dubbed CardHead strong Crockett Dancing strong It s almost getting too easy if you ask me ruining any chance that Mike Crockett might have at Congress or the like Once again Mike drank some alcohol Once again without provoking of any kind he was on the dance floor And once again the spectacle was caught on film I d personally like to thank Mr Michael Crockett for providing me and all of his party guests with several minutes of entertainment

Corpus Christi Time Lapse Since we ve been sitting around my parent s house in Corpus for the Thanksgiving holiday my sister and I have been experimenting with her new camera I downloaded the software that lets us hook it up to my Apple and so we can control the camera with much more granularity than the camera otherwise allows for She and I setup my computer and her camera on the front porch while we had dinner and let it take a picture every 20 seconds for an hour or so Once the sun had completely set I took all of the images and stitched them together in iMovieHD The result was a really nice high definition sunset iframe width 519 height 294 src http www youtube com embed 7QqD9PCRPw0 frameborder 0 allowfullscreen iframe

Thirsty in Jersey I discovered what I would describe as a new low for corporate America in bed with government In this case the problem appears to be with either the New Jersey State Legislature or the Newark City Council perhaps both The newest wing of the Newark Liberty International Airport gates C120 C139 was built without a single water fountain in it It does however have about a dozen fast food esque restaurants nicely arranged in a circular design all of whom sell bottles of water I know this might seem like a first world problem to some people but that s not my angle citing the absence of water is a far cry from citing a lack of mobile power stations or WiFi Cynical as I am towards those in charge and I believe justifiably I remain hopeful that people will ultimately reject the outright commoditization of drinkable water even if we do continue buying it at thousands of percent markup But having written that I have a hard time believing this was simply an architectural oversight for a major international airport That dear home state is just shameful

HIS1301 The American Crisis Luther Elmore History 1301 Assignment 2 The American Crisis As I read through the article Paine wrote two hundred and twenty five years ago I found that imagining myself in that time period is impossible When I read the way that Paine described other countries mainly England and the way that he and certainly others felt about groups of people a sense that we have it really easy came over me As Paine gets not halfway into the article he begins describing his feelings towards the Tories with very expressive adjectives The simplest of all these adjectives is that they are cowards plain and simple One might not be overly offended these days when called a coward however I imagine that in 1776 when courage and love were the only two things a man really owned taking one away from him meant a lot Paine goes on to describe Toryism as nothing but servile slavish and interested fear I feel it is safe to say that he was not fond of the Tories As I got more and more into Paine s article I especially enjoyed his style of rhetoric in regards to encouraging the Americans of the time In a nutshell I felt that he wrote a very good English paper as school would have lead me to believe Paine describes advances that the militia has taken and will take upon the land and tells the Americans that losses are possible no doubt about it Upon doing so he also assures them that hope should not be lost with these losses He tells them as the British do one thing and furthermore succeed they have the following options and he then proceeds to list them As an example he describes that Howe may advance to Philadelphia and upon doing so may take it over He tells his readers that if he does not take it over then they have been victorious and he is ruined On the other hand if he is successful the American armies can split into two and join forces making it impossible for them both to be conquered at the same time at least In my mind it is of course understood that his predictions and solutions were completely hypothetical We must remind ourselves however that while they may have been hypothetical they were still predictions and solutions to those predictions and people in general rely on such things to remain happy and hopeful In a completely honest opinion of this text I found it somewhat difficult to read As mentioned above I found impossible or near impossible at least to put myself in the shoes of someone reading this article in December of 1776 Nonetheless I still found the article to be incredibly insightful to the time period and very interesting reading because it has such historical content I found the even more historical value in it through several paragraphs referencing Amboy As it is I spent the first seven years of my life in New Jersey and my father was born and raised in what is today South Amboy thus making me very aware of the described area 200 years progressed of course On a final note I did bookmark the site of philosopher s texts and would like to go back and read over some of Paine s other articles I often find myself scribing small philosophies of my own and am rarely dissatisfied reading the philosophies of others regardless of their opinions
