B-Rad's 39th at the W I was so happy when I found out that my old friend Brad Parker had moved back to Austin with his partner, Be. For Brad's 39th birthday Be rented out the pool deck at the W, flew in a musician from Oklahoma that Brad loved, and had the W cater a fantastic dinner to about 20 of Brad's friends. Just after we cut the birthday cake the sky absolutely opened up and we experienced one of those famous Austin storms of hail and fury from god. Short story: It was an amazing party.
Flying to Brenham My buddy Steve Haskett was kind enough to invite me on a flight with him to Brenham and ultimately to College Station. Having not flown in some time, I was delighted to join him. Steve let me navigate through the clouds for about 20 minutes, one of my favorite views in the sky!
SXSW Broadmoor A collection of photos from SXSW Broadmoor - the massive free music festival at my house as a mini tribute to Austin's SXSW. Thanks to mmmpanadas for delicious empanadas, Sean Aliaga for his caricatures, and to our wonderful lineup including Pi Jacobs, girling, Tigerman WOAH, and The Ghost of Paul Revere! If you have additional photos and/or videos from the event, please do share them with me. Also, please check out all of these awesome bands!
Building SXSW Broadmoor In an effort to have a much better stage setup at my house for the SXSW Broadmoor show, I recruited a few people to help tear down the old rape shacks on the premises. Thanks to Claire, Tim, and Gam-Gam for helping with this major tear down.
Charity Party at the Salt Lick Every year Javier and his friend Blake throw a huge charity party at the Salt Lick. The party benefits the Austin Paramount. I invited a bunch of ladies out there and enjoyed hanging out with all of them.
Party at the Plant As part of their annual effort to bring people from Grand Rapids to Austin (and visa-versa), Mark and Dana through a great party out at The Plant. I was honored to be invited amongst the crowd and always happy to talk with the Grand Rapidians.
Guitar Progress I brought my friend Claire out to Mark and Dana's place (The Plant at Kyle) out in Kyle for a nice dinner with friends. I was fortunate enough to get to see Jamie Kinscherff's progress on my guitar as he lives out there. It was the first time that I had ever seen any part of it and the first time I was able to hear how the wood resonated. Just a few more months to go!
Setting up the New Studio With my new drum kit in the house, I've been slowly working on setting up a small music studio for the band that I have been working on putting together. These are just a few shots of the process.
Building my EL Wire Suit Determined to have a kickass costume at Carnaval this year, I purchased some mechanic coveralls, 45 feet of electroluminscent wire, and a big bag of batteries. My dear friend Claire helped me to come up with the general pattern and sew everything together. It was quite the hit.
Melissa's Housewarming With DaveG in town from Kansas for the week, we went around and saw a bunch of old friends including our old friend Melissa Henry. She had just recently moved into the Gibson Flats and threw a small housewarming party.
