Random PC Photos I had kept a directory of random photos on one of my old PCs. With no real idea of what to do with it, I just went ahead and kept it all together in this directory. It's got a host of junk in it from over the years.
Breckenridge with Kujda A week before my SkiLudlow 2012 trip, Kujda and I headed out to Breckenridge to do some skiing of our own. We actually even met up with our good friend Tom Kelley for the last two days we were out there. I didn't wind up taking too many photos, but our ride out to Breckenridge from Denver was perhaps the most dangerous it has ever been. A huge blizzard had come in (east of the mountain passes) and we were literally sliding all over the steep roads on the way out there. Somehow or another we managed to get ahead of them closing the roads.
Kinsolving Dorm During my first summer at the University of Texas, I had to go through what was called the UT provisional program. This was essentially reserved for people who more or less had the test scores to get in, but didn't necessarily have the grades and/or class ranking to really shine on the application process. During this summer program I wound up living in the Kinsolving dormitory which, while normally an all girls dorm, was coed during these summer programs. A friend of mine from high school named Donlee Cone Smith wound up staying with me most of the time. We would often go up towards Pflugerville and Round Rock (which were tiny, tiny towns at the time) and visit his mother. A lot of that time was just spent fishing on the river near her apartment, but it made for a good time. There is a grouping of photos in here from one of the worst accidents Austin had seen. Evidently the 18-wheeler was forced off of the road and wound up colliding with the angled concrete. The truck was entirely mangled, but worse was that the driver and his young son were both killed instantly in the crash.
NYE with Steve and Eugene Since Adrienne and I decided to head out to Marfa for the New Year's holiday, my dear friend Mark put me in touch with two friends of his from Austin. We had the pleasure of not only meeting Eugene and Steve, but also attending their New Year's Eve party at Marfa's famous Hotel Paisano. They had rented the Rock Hudson suite and I have to say, it was more than spectacular. We had a wonderful time and met all sorts of absolutely interesting people. We also played the longest game of papers (they called it celebrities) that I have ever played. It was a blast!
Vail Trip 2014 I thought it would be fun to take Adrienne to Breckenridge and Vail for a Christmas present and so we packed up on January 8th and headed that way. We had the good fortune of using a friend of a friend's condo in Breckenridge our first two nights, and then got to stay with my dear friends Tim and Courtney in Vail. We also happened to have the most elaborate dinner I've ever had at Game Creek Lodge. The Lodge is a country club that sits atop Vail and is only accessible via a reservation, a gondola, and a snowcat. It was a pretty surreal dining experience (complete with slippers at the door).
Percona Conference Javier, Mike, and I headed out to California for a conference with the Percona guys. It was actually really amazing and I think it was safe to say we left with some good knowledge.
Log Cabin Council Debate After the Log Cabin guys helped my campaign and especially Adrienne and I so much with the parade, I told them I would stop in and help with their City Council debate. It was pretty amazing to see how many candidates they managed to get to show up.
Trees of Govalle Performance The Trees of Govalle show was another year of the Forklift Productions doing a live performance with city employees. While I felt the performance was just a little too long, it was truly beautiful and well orchestrated. My dear friend Mark Holzbach was able to get us VIP seating as he is good friends with Allison Orr. We also ran into Graham Renyolds, a friend of both of ours, who was the composer of the event.
T-Bird at the Empire Control Room T-Bird and the Breaks played the second part of the CD release weekend party at the Empire Control Room. I went with my friend Claire and met up with my other friend Whit (and of course Carly and Roxanne). This was probably one of the best rehearsed and best sounding performances I've ever seen these guys put on. It was an amazing show!
Dirtbikes with Amy I hadn't seen Amy in awhile and was so excited when she invited me out to ride dirtbikes with her for the day. Amy is a pretty seasoned motorcycle instructor and it's always fun when she shows me new things on the bikes.
