Learning to Make Sourdough Bread Claire had been wanting to learn how to make sourdough bread and just happened to give it a go just before I arrived at her house. Naturally, this seemed like a fun thing to do and so we both spent time reading different techniques and experimenting with different recipes, starters, and fillers. My first full sourdough was a made with plenty of caraway seeds (to get that rye flavor) and some minced cranberries. It came out surprisingly well for my first go, but I did have the benefit of Claire's instructions to help me through it.
Night Shots of Claire's Cabin I just wanted to play around with my new iPhone in the darkness of Claire's forest. I managed to get some pretty cool shots of her cabin in the woods with it.
My New Ukrainian Flags I've been flying flags at my house for many years. I generally fly countries that I happen to be enamored with (Nepal and Jordan, for example), but often change out the flags to represent the heritage or nationality of any friends coming to stay with me. I don't usually fly two of the same flag, but in the interest of supporting Ukraine, I present the double Ukraine flags.
Graham Cracker Pudding Dessert Idea I was trying to come up with a simple dessert for myself one night, checked on the ingredients that I had on hand, and this is what I came up with. Rachel had come over one night and after we had some dinner, asked if there was some kind of dessert we could get. I told her that I'd whip up something I'd recently made. It's a pretty simple recipe: Line 4 graham crackers on the bottom of a glass pan. Make some homemade whipped cream (2 cups heavy cream, 4 tbsp powdered sugar, 2 tsb vanilla), and create a hearty layer of the whipped cream above the graham crackers. Mix up some chocolate pudding and then line the pudding above the whipped cream. Place another layer of whipped cream above the chocolate pudding. Finally, crumple graham crackers on the top of the pie. It's amazing.
Banana and Bread Flour Egg Yolk Cookies I wanted to experiment with a few different types of flour. So in addition to having baked these with all-purpose flour and almond flour, I went ahead and tried banana flour and bread flour too. I think the almond flour is probably the best overall, but the bread flour was a close second. Suffice it to say, I made a lot of cookies.
The Completed Easel I am thrilled to have built this project. It presented a ton of challenges with the worst of them being that I don't actually have a wood shop in which to do this kind of fine wood crafting. Thankfully I've got that all worked out and my new house will be built far our in the country with a giant metal building specifically so that I can enjoy working on my projects 24 hours per day.
