Canada Day in Montreal Rymo and I met up with Marciano in Montreal for Canada Day (and I suppose also for our 4th of July). It also happened to be the weekend of the Montreal Music Festival and so there were all sorts of things going on. Marciano quickly launched a campaign entitled "Do you know Ludlow", hence my 30 pictures with Montreal's finest ladies. I also thoroughly enjoyed driving one of his many Ferraris, in my case the F1 series Ferrari F-430.
Guadalupe Mountains State Park Caroline and I thought it would be fun to hike the Guadalupe Mountains out in west Texas. This was a hell of a trip given the time commitment necessary just to get out there. We left on Friday after work and drove straight through to Ft. Stockton where we found a motel for the night. The motel owner was adamant about the fact that their motel was the only one in the town still run by Americans. We got up pretty early the next day and drove the remaining 2 hours or so to the basin of the mountain. After speaking with the park rangers for about 20 minutes, we started out hike. Little did we know that it was going to take us almost 6 hours to summit the mountain and we're lucky we made it up there before the sun went down. We had hoped to sit atop the mountain drinking whiskey and star gazing, but by the time we got to the top, setup, and had dinner, we both passed out no later than 8pm.
Griffith Observatory The Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles is one of my most favorite places. The architecture of the place is strikingly beautiful and the view of Los Angeles from above is unmatched. I was shooting a bunch of pictures this day in an effort to stitch some panoramas together. They all came out pretty well, but didn't print quite as well as I'd hoped for.
Ok Go Party After releasing their highly anticipated video for "This Too Shall Pass" in the form of a one-shot Rube Goldberg machine, Ok Go had a party showcasing all of the different components to the machine. Naturally Liz got invited and got us into the museum for free. Highlights of the night included seeing their entire set, watching them play, and running into Weird Al. We had to leave a little earlier than expected to attend a party over at my friend Bruce Ravid's house.
Refrigerator MosquitoHawk I opened the refrigerator one afternoon only to have a mosquito hawk fly into it and start sucking the perspiration off the side of a yogurt cup. I was going to remove him, but thought it would be more fun to get some close up pictures of him first.
Moon over Corpus Christi The telescope that Tisa bought me for Christmas in 2002 has been at my parents house in Corpus Christi for several years. This one particular night I noticed that there was a beautiful view of the moon through it and worked to take a picture of what I could see through the telescope's diopter. It turns out that it was quite a bit harder to do than I thought it would be, namely because the moon moves out of view so quickly. But I did manage to snap off a few great pics.
Weitzel Cabin Trip Weitzel invited a bunch of us up to his family's cabin in Empire, Colorado. I have to say, it is by far one of the coolest places I have ever visited. The entire area was completely pristine, and doing random work around the cabin was about as enjoyable of a time as I could have possibly hoped for. We also spent two or three days working on a giant dam at the bottom of their property. I'm told that it has since been washed away, but it was fun while it lasted. We probably moved several thousand pounds of rock by hand to form it.
More Hardware Sales I had a whole bunch of hardware that I wanted to unload from one of my servers and was just shooting some pics of it.
2010 Trip to Vegas #1 On my way back across country to Los Angeles, Putt had told me that he was going to be in Las Vegas. So instead of taking my usual route of I-10, I took the northern route and drove all the way to Las Vegas. I stayed with Putt at the Venetian and had a marvelous time going out and about with all of our friends. I was also a participant in 4 different games of credit card roulette, and fortunately only lost one of them (albeit it was a $300 loss).
Living in Sin Party Liz and I had been wanting to throw a housewarming party for quite awhile, so I was glad that we finally got around to it. Unfortunately I didn't really have my camera on me all night and only wound up shooting 3 pics! Fortunately one of her friends took a whole bunch and sent them our way. I only have the low-res versions of those, but at least I have something.
